Formatting codes in Minecraft also known as color codes. Also, add color and modifications to text in game. Text in Minecraft is able to be formatted with the section sign (§). In Bedrock Edition, the section sign is able to be entered into signs, world names, renaming items and in the chat. But, external programs are able to be used to insert it in other locations. In Java Edition, section signs may be used in server names, server properties, pack mcmeta, and world titles.

USAGE

Text is able to be formatted by using the section sign (§) followed by a character. A symbol in the message tells the client to switch colors. In Bedrock Edition, the § symbol is able to be used in any text input, while in Java Edition, it may be used in world titles, server names, server properties and pack mcmeta.


You have to know that in Java Edition, if a color code is used after a formatting code, so the formatting code is disabled beyond the color code point. Therefore, when using a color code in tandem with a formatting code, make sure the color code is used first and reuse the formatting code when changing colors. While in Bedrock Edition, formatting codes insist after a color code. Moreover, if an obfuscated code is used and a reset code is not used before the end of the line, so the client GUI continues to obfuscate text past the MOTD and into the version number display.

MINECRAFT COLOR CODES AND FORMAT CODES

In Minecraft, there are a number of color codes and format codes that you are able to use in chat and game commands. For your information, color codes will be able to be used to change the color of text in the game. Besides, it is able to assign the team colors and customize the color of dyed leather armor. While format codes are able to be used to modify the appearance of in-game text such as bold or italic.

Also, there are some programs that offer you to format text in chat, plaques and other places. Those programs are Essentials and MCEdit. Text in Minecraft will be able to be formatted depend on two criteria: color formatting and text formatting.  Those two options can also be combined. The same combinations are required for text formatting.
