The players were setting up the new Minecraft server at HTG headquarters to play the amazing Captive Minecraft survival mode game when they realized they did not have a thing about how to find the saved games folder.

There are a lot of Minecraft worlds on the internet that you are able to download, unzip, and then play on the local computer without having to join a server or set one up, but to do that, you will have to know how to get to the saved games, and Minecraft does not put those worlds into a place you would expect, like the Documents folder.


Finding the Minecraft saved games on Windows

Your saved games are located inside of the AppData folder. This one is not that easily to find or get to because the entire AppDate folder is hidden. It actually makes it more confusing whey they decided to put all the saved games there.

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft

Fortunately, there is an easy way to get the Minecraft saved games folder. All that you have to do is to just copy and paste this into the Search or Run box and hit the Enter key:

%appdata%\.minecraft

Once you are there, you are able to browse down into the saves folder and copy, move, or do whatever you have to do.

For those who have run Minecraft within your computer, you then will have a .minecraft file. The thing may be a bit hard to find. This following is a really easy approach to arrive at it. The first thing that you have to do is to launch Minecraft. Then, select the Mods and Texture Packs. The next thing that you have to do is to select Open Texture Pack folder. After that, you need to go up one level.

Finding the Minecraft saved games on Mac OS X

On OS X, the saved games folder is placed inside of the Library/Application Support directory inside of your user folder, but these folders are not easy to find the normal way.

/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/minecraft

The simple way to get there is to just paste this into the Spotlight search window and press the Enter key. From there, you are able to browse into the saved folder, and you will be bale to see all of them there.

Finding the Minecraft saved games on Linux

For Linux, the saved games are able to be found inside of the .minecraft directory inside of your user folder. The issue is that any directory that begins with a period is hidden in Linux.

/home/<username>/.minecraft

Aside from that, you are also able to get there by using the ~ shortcut that represents your user folder directory.

~/.minecraft

Loading saved games

Once you click to Single Player mode, you will be able to see the list of saved games. for those who exit the screen and then click back in, you will immediately see the new saved game that you unzipped or otherwise copied into the folder.
