How to Tame a Parrot in Minecraft

Parrots in Minecraft are passive mobs which are able to fly and they spawn in jungle biomes. You are able to find them in groups of 1 – 2 at level 70 or above. They are able to imitate sounds of nearby hostile mobs and they are able to perch on the shoulder of the player.

If you want to tame a parrot, you can do that by giving them seeds. It can be wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, or beetroot seeds. If you are able to tame it successfully, then you are able to interact with it and make it sit down and stand up.


So, how to tame a parrot in Minecraft? You are able to follow the steps below to be able to tame a parrot.

  • First, you have to find a parrot. If you find any difficulties in finding a parrot, you are able to summon a parrot using a cheat or you are able to use a spawn egg.
  • Next, you have to use seeds to tame a parrot. You can use any kind of seeds such as beetroot seeds, pumpkin seeds, melon seeds or wheat seeds. Here, we will try to tame it by feeding it with melon seeds. To do it, you have to put your melon seeds in the hotbar and you have to make sure that it is the chosen item in your hotbar.

o   If you are a Java Edition (PC/Mac) user, you have to right click on the parrot.

o   If you are a Pocket Edition (PE) user, you have to move your pointer over the parrot and press the Tame button.

o   If you are Xbox 360 and Xbox One users, you have to press the LT button on the Xbox controller.

o   If you are PS3 and PS4 users, you have to press the L2 button on the PS controller.

o   If you are a Wii U user, you have to press the ZL button on the gamepad.

o   If you are a Nintendo Switch user, you have to press the ZL button on the controller.

o   If you are a Windows 10 Edition user, you must right click on the parrot.

o   If you are an Education Edition user, you must right click on the parrot.

  • If you have fed the seeds to the parrot, then you will see gray smoke appear above the parrot. If it happens, you need to know that it means that the parrot is not yet tamed. You have to continue to feed the parrot more seeds until you see red hearts appear all around the parrot. If you see the red hearts, it means that the parrot is being tamed.
