Creating a server in Minecraft definitely will allow two or more players to play Minecraft together. Certainly, to create a server in Minecraft will need some things that can make it running smoothly. But, to create server in Minecraft is not so easy because you must understand for the steps.

Firstly, get the latest java version.

  • Open the Windows Control
  • Then, under the Programs, search for Java and click Update Now.
  • After that, open a command prompt and enter java version. You can see a version number.
  • You can check your java version here.  If you java is outdated, you can download it on that page.

Secondly, choose the location for Minecraft server files

  • Of course, you have to choose a location on your PC where you want to run the server from.
  • It will create a new configuration files when you run it first.
  • Then, you can place the folder on your Desktop, in Programs folder, in Documents folder or anywhere as you like.

Thirdly, download and start the server for Minecraft

  • In this step, you have to download the server software from official Minecraft website.
  • The downloaded files will comes as a Java .jar files. Then, save it to the location as you chose in the previous step.
  • Then, double-click the .jar files to start the server. Definitely, it will create the server configuration files that have to be modified before the server is ready to use.
  • After that, accept the EULA (A text file called txt). Open it in a text editor and change eula=false to eula=true. If you get failed in accepting EULA, automatically it will prevent you to start the Minecraft server.
  • Then, if you see a pop up that says “Can’t save server properties”, it means error.
  • In this step, you have to run the Minecraft server as an administrator by right-clicking the .jar files. Then, select “Run as administrator”.

Fourthly, enable port forwarding on your router

Need to know that port forwarding can be in a serious risk. But, if you are on local network for players, you do not have to worry about it.

  • This step refers to your router documentation to look for the specific instructions on how to configure port forwarding in your device. You will need to forward TCP port 25565 for Minecraft.
  • Then, you must enter your server’s local IP address as Output IP or Server IP for the forwarded port. To get your server’s local IP, you can open a command prompt and enter ipconfig.

Finally, start the Minecraft server

  • To start the server in Minecraft, you have to open Windows command prompt. Start server with the following command: java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar {server file name} nogui replace to java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar {server file name}.
  • Of course, you can also create a .bat file to batch the command together.
  • If the server is running, you can invite the other players to connect to your server through your local IP address. Or via external IP address if they are not on your home network.
